1 is suuuper pretty, ngl the style you're describing doesn't sound good at all yet this icon is amazing! The toned down contrast and matte coloring works so well in a way that looks inspired by old trends, but completely new. So, perfect for the challnge :) 3 is gorgeous and Intro is great for this type of text! I love the text use here and the purples look so good. The coloring and lighting in 4 are perfection, and I love the heavy shadows and dark vibrancy in 7! Omg I totally hear you on 8, that was definitely a style I also wanted to try but never really got anywhere with it! (and you're right that tturners was the master of it for sure) Fwiw I think you nailed it in this icon, GORGEOUS crop and just the right amount of contrast. The last icon is great too, I love a good grunge icon and the crop is awesome.
